STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
Spacious apartments with stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Convenient for guests arriving by car; less so for those using public transport, as the location is about 40 kilometers from Como.
SURROUNDINGS San Siro is a charming village located on the picturesque shores of Lake Como. Far from the hustle and bustle of mass tourism, it is perfect for those seeking peace and privacy. It offers a nearly enchanted landscape on the western shore of the lake, directly facing Bellagio and Varenna—two of the most renowned lakeside towns—and with the Swiss Alps behind. San Siro is also close to some of Lake Como’s most famous and beautiful villas. Just a few kilometers away you’ll find, for example, Villa Balbianello and Villa Carlotta. In just ten minutes by car, you can reach the beautiful town of Menaggio, from which you can take a ferry to visit other lakeside destinations. Menaggio is also well-known for its stunning lakeside promenade, offering breathtaking views. Outdoor enthusiasts will find the area a true paradise: the surrounding region offers countless activities, from hiking and mountain biking in the nearby mountains to water sports such as sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding on the lake. Nature lovers will also enjoy the many hiking trails that lead to spectacular viewpoints, allowing you to fully appreciate the natural beauty of Lake Como.
GETTING AROUND For convenience, we recommend that guests reach the property by car. Public transport from Como is less convenient. From Menaggio—about a 10-minute drive from San Siro—ferries depart to Como, Bellagio, Varenna, and other lakeside towns. Please note that during peak season, there may be long queues at the ferry ticket office. Tickets can also be purchased online on the Navigazione Laghi website. There is also a ferry that transports cars. San Siro is about 40 kilometers from Como and roughly one hour by car. From the Como San Giovanni train station, there are regular trains to Milan Central Station and to Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno). From Como Nord Lago, there’s a train connection to Milan Cadorna. The closest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Orio Al Serio in Bergamo. A direct airport shuttle can be arranged at an additional cost. If you have any questions about transportation, please don’t hesitate to contact us—we’ll be happy to help ensure you reach your desired destination!
TIPS
We recommend dedicating a full day to exploring the beautiful towns around the lake. Como is the main city, but the small towns are true gems with splendid lakeside villas. To move around and stroll along Lake Como—especially in the smaller towns—comfortable shoes are essential. There are many public fountains with drinkable water in the area. Unless otherwise indicated, the water is safe to drink. Tap water is also potable, so feel free to bring a refillable water bottle! If you’re looking for a relatively easy hike with mountain views, the Greenway del Lago di Como is a scenic and manageable trail that connects lakeside villages from Colonno to Griante and doesn’t involve much climbing. A bus can take you to the starting point in Colonno. Seek out traditional restaurants where you can sample local dishes, especially those made with Lake Como fish. In Italy, many small shops and services close during midday, so plan your shopping accordingly. Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. However, there are some options for those wishing to enjoy the water. There’s a beach (lido) in Menaggio. Locals and visitors also enjoy going to Nesso, where more adventurous swimmers dive from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall. The Lido di Bellagio and the pebble beach of San Giovanni are great options for those exploring the beautiful town of Bellagio, located at the center of the lake’s two branches. Lake Como is in a mountainous region. While the surrounding Prealps don’t seem very tall, the weather is heavily influenced by the nearby mountains and temperatures can change quickly. Pay special attention to weather conditions when hiking and bring warm, waterproof clothing!
EXPERIENCES There are so many amazing things to do around Lake Como! We can suggest and help organize the following:
Private boat tours Kayaking / SUP on the lake Seaplane flights over the lake Yoga and meditation classes Wine tastings Cooking classes Hiking and foraging Mountain biking excursions Mountain treks Guided tours of Milan
